Coolangatta Surf Club transition to SENPOS Point of Sale

Since its humble beginnings in 1958, Coolangatta Surf Club (the Club) has evolved to become a beachside hub in the local community, both for its commitment to the Coolangatta Surf Lifesaving Club (SLSC) and excellence in hospitality. With thousands of Coolangatta beachgoers visiting each week, ensuring smooth operations, accurate stocktaking and positive customer engagement are essential, which can be managed with an agile point-of-sale (POS) system. Working with Brendan Driscoll, Club General Manager Steve Edgar and the team recently transitioned to new SENPOS technology to streamline operations and enhance promotion capabilities.

Meaningful experiences

Recently ranked as one of the best surf clubs on the Gold Coast by the Urban List, Coolangatta Surf Club offers a variety of dining and entertainment, including the Seabreeze Bistro, Board Short Barista, bar and several areas for patrons to enjoy the view. In addition to this, proceeds from the Club go directly to the SLSC to allow their volunteer lifesavers to purchase vital rescue equipment, and provide surf training and education.

While creating positive customer experiences is an important goal for Steve and the Club, staff recognition is equally important. With a focus on staff wellbeing and mental health, Steve is dedicated to fostering an “authentic team culture” that recognises staff and their hard work. Since 2018, Steve has empowered staff to provide monthly “peer-to-peer feedback to recognise great work ethics and actions”, he described. For Steve, it’s incredibly important to show staff they are appreciated, which he believes “drives the team to show happiness in their work and ultimately benefits the hospitality industry“. With monthly awards for each department and regular staff highlights on the Club’s employment app, it’s clear how important morale is at the Club. At the November Staff Awards Night, Brendan Driscoll will attend to meet the nominees and show his support alongside a sponsorship from SENPOS.

As the Club approaches 70 years, we look forward to seeing its continued growth and engagement with customers and staff.

Stand-out solutions

The Club has onboarded SENPOS at terminals located in the restaurant, café and bar, new Kitchen Display software to enhance kitchen operations as well as a new Roam Stocktaking device to ace stocktaking.

Integrating your POS technology with the third-party applications your venue uses can help make your business more agile, reduce manual processes and minimise inaccuracies. By integrating SENPOS with accounting and gaming systems, like Xero and Max Gaming, the Club can streamline sales, invoicing and gain member insights. When asked about his experience working with Brendan, Steve explained that Brendan was “attentive and professional at all times” and could answer any question he asked. A key factor in deciding to transition to SENPOS was the rapport Brendan built with Steve, offering peace of mind throughout the process. “I am very pleased we made the move to SENPOS. Brendan’s professionalism was a major part of this”, he explained.

In addition to this, the Club also gains seamless promotion capabilities to ensure customers are regularly engaged. On offer at the Club are weekly bistro specials, member birthdays, cocktail of the month, raffles and SLSC member offers to name a few. With an easy setup tool, staff can create and schedule promotions to provide a variety of offers to delight every customer.

Training success

The success of a POS system isn’t just about the software—it’s also about the support that comes with it. The SENPOS Support Team plays a crucial role in delivering elevated service and training to ensure customers gain the most value from their SENPOS system. This occurs throughout installation and onboarding, which includes a dedicated training session with in-house expert Kara Booy. A one-on-one session with Kara ensures managers and staff are comfortable using SENPOS, can ask questions and access helpful resources like the SENPOS Learning Hub.
